Your Domestic Battery Storage Questions Answered

Various different factors can affect this answer. The first step is figuring out your household’s daily energy usage and your peak demand. Once you know how much energy you use on average and the maximum amount used at any one time, you will be able to choose a home battery storage system that has a sufficient energy capacity to power your home – based on your rate of electricity consumption.

Other questions to ask yourself are: Do you have or are planning to have a Solar PV installation, and can you purchase electricity at off peak rates?


As an example – A customer with a 3 kw Solar PV system and annual usage of 4000 kWh would usually have a battery storage system between 12 to 15 kW.

Solax Power Batteries have a 6000 cycle life expectancy. That means if the battery was charged and discharged to 100% of its capacity each day it would have a lifespan of 16 years. In reality it is rare that a battery would be fully charged and discharged everyday so the expected life expectancy can be as high as 20 years.

This will depend on the size and type of system purchased. Our home battery storage products range in price (excluding VAT) from £2,500 up to £6,600 for a larger system that will store up to 17kWh.

Home battery storage systems can be fitted either inside or outdoors as most products have an IP65 rating. Ideally a product needs to be installed  within 10 metres of the main consumer unit. For maximum flexibility with fitting our battery storage systems, our products can be either floor or wall mounted.

All Solax Power products come with a 10-year product warranty.

This all depends on how efficiently you use your system and the cost of electricity. A typical property currently has the unit cost of electricity capped at around £0.35/kWh, and off-peak electricity can be purchased at around £0.075/kWh. If a home battery system could store 2500 kWh of Solar PV power and 4000 kWh of off- peak electricity, the annual saving could be over £1,800 per annum.

All purchased battery storage systems will need to be notified to your District Network Operator (DNO). However, only systems that have a discharge rate greater than 3.7 kW will need approval via the G99 regulations prior to installation. Systems below 3.7 kW will only need to be simply notified to the DNO post installation via G98 regulations. This process will all be undertaken by your approved installer.

All our home battery storage products have passed International, European, and UK safety tests and are certified accordingly. The batteries supplied are LiFePO4, the safest type of Lithium batteries. These batteries will not overheat, and even if punctured they will not catch on fire.
